With the development of network technology, multicast technology and communication technology, text and voice communication via internet can not meet the requirement of people, so the development and application of the video conferencing have been one of the hot spot of the network application. Video conferencing system is a communication system which uses the computer network to transmit the moving picture sequence, audio and data of many participants. Through the video conferencing, people who are not in the same place can communicate freely and effectively with each other. The existing video conferencing systems need one or more servers commonly. The more participants, the more data is needed which is disposed and transmitted by servers, but the quality of video received by the participants declines rapidly. The servers become the bottleneck of the extending of the system scale. After the introduction and analysis of current technology of video conferencing, the design and implementation of a P2P-based video conferencing system is presented in this paper through combining the P2P technology. The new system needn't any server, and the tasks which belong to the servers before are performed by the participants now. So the new system eliminates the system's bottleneck, reduces the network congestion dramatically and increases the quality of video.JXTA technology provides a united platform for all kinds of P2P application. Compared with other P2P technologies, JXTA has the characteristics of operating each other, cross-platform and general use. Java Media Framework (shortened form JMF) provides a common cross-platform Java API to access underlying media frameworks. JMF provides a unified architecture and messaging protocol for managing the acquisition, processing, and delivery of time-based media data. The new video conferencing system in this paper is implemented on the JXTA platform and JMF.
