China is a big ceramic products country. In the producting progress, the quality of ceramic slurry is a main factor of products. Among all the ceramic slurry indicators, the density of ceramic slurry is the most important one. It implicates the quality of ceramic products directly.In this paper, ingredients and physical chracteristics of ceramic slurry are discribed first. Testing methods of all these characteristics are briefly summarized. The author has invented some specific experimental devices to test ceramic slurry density. Characteristics of these devices and operating methods are well stated in the paper.In the experiments testing ceramic slurry density, the author has employed three methods. They are A, using capacitance sensor; B,ray casting method; C, double "D" optical fiber sensor. In method A, the author takes the density test of ceramic mud with cylinder capacitance sensor for example. Beginning with the capacitance formula, combining with the ingredient of ceramic mud, disadvantages of this method are proved. This means it should be avoided during the density test of ceramic slurry.In method B, the author designed a glass box of seal. After the light has penetrated ceramic slurry, we could messure light intensity by illuminometer. Then we have a pair of experimental illuminate data. The data leads to three conclusions. The three conclusions showed that it should also not be used.In method C, the author designed a simple device, which was made up of plastic bottles and black tapes. One method is to adhere a piece of glass to the double "D" optical fibre sensors. This method has been proved to have two shortcomings, and therefor should be avoided to be used. The other method is to put the double "D" optical fibre sensors directly into ceramic slurry. The sensors can indicate the changes of ceramic slurry density more accurately. On the base of experiments, the author designed a convevient testing device of ceramic slurry density. This device is made up of device coat,electronic part. The electronic part is made up of detection circuit with Single-chip Computer as the core, which can indicate the ceramic slurry density. This paper includes six chapters. It focuses on the experimental study of density test of ceramic mud, and also design, manufacture and study of it. The outcome of the study has overcome the disadvantages of the test methods of ceramic mud density, and has made the test faster, more accurate and convenient. The device described in this paper could lead to productions with higher quality, at the same time more economical, of course.
