With rapid development of computer graphics technology and mining continues to expand the scale and in-depth, three-dimensional geological modeling and visualization technology have been widely used in the mining and construction fields. Existed 3D geological modeling and visualization technology in the modeling efficiency, realistic and real-time interaction, and other aspects of the actual production was unable to meet the requirements. How to effectively establish a true and accurate three-dimensional geological model and which can be rapidly rendered has become one of the current hot research. In this paper, 3D geological modeling and visualization system based on VTK (Visualization ToolKit) graphics toolkit were studied.In light of the actual conditions of production on the basis of the system carried out a detailed needs analysis and design, hierarchical structure and proposed ways of combining the plug-in architecture model. 3D graphics engine based on VTK is used level framework, this engine provides generic 3D modeling algorithm, graphics rendering and scene management interface, greatly reducing the development of the system redundancy. The use of TIN in the 3D geological entities can be enhanced rendering speed and the accuracy of entity operation. The 3D interactive design based on plug-in was designed to reduce the coupling in system modules, the system can be developed for effective management. The systems of three-dimensional geological modeling and visualization studied in this paper can be achieved basic 3D orebody modeling, 3D railway entity modeling and 3D geological data management, rendering speed in the actual production to meet basic needs.
