Microwave solid-state power amplifier (PA) modules are essential parts in solid-state radar transmitter system. Their performance will directly affect the specifications of whole system where modules are.In China , transmitting channel of T/R modules(i. e. microwave solid-state PA modules) in solid-state active phased array antenna are widely used in ground-based system, but their application research in spaceborne radar is burgeoning in recent years. Because of irreparability and complexity in space environments of spaceborne radar, the demands on microwave solid-state PA modules used in spaceborne radar are more exact. Not only demands on technical specifications are very strict, but also they must satisfy the requirements in complex space environments and ensure high reliability. This paper makes researches on microwave solid-state PA modules used in spaceborne radar and their A-P characteristics. From reliability and combination efficiency aspects, a 250W microwave solid-state PA module is designed and made by circuit design and CAD software simulation. By experiments this paper studies the A-P characteristics of microwave solid-state PA modules, summarizes the factors affecting A-P characteristics and advances some methods in solving A-P characteristics problems. Applications of microwave solid-state PA modules and influences of their A-P characteristics are analyzed and discussed. The success in this topic provides technical references for microwave solid-state PA modules used in spaceborne radar.
