With the development of country's attention to safety production in the coal mine, radio communication technology, as a beneficial supplement in the coal mine communication and monitor, begin to get widespread application. WiFi technology as one kind of a short distance radio communications technology, which has the advantages of large coverage and can achieve wireless Ad-hoc network, has broad prospects for development.It has been brought forward coal mine multi-service terminal model based on WiFi technology in the foundation of analyzing the coal mine safety development status, integrating development of theory technology and the practical application of business needs in this paper. The design of coal mine multi-service terminal, which is based on the ARM processor and Embedded Operating System Linux, is presented and demonstrated. The overall design of the hardware and software is carried out.The hardware circuits of coal mine multi-service terminal, which include power supply module, electronic core module of ARM, memory module, serial communication module, usb communication module, digital audio interface module, etc, are designed and realized. The prototype is developed successfully.The software of coal mine multi-service terminal, which consists of the embedded operating system Linux, file system, wireless audio communication task, wireless date communication task, wireless video communication task and other software module, is developed. It introduces the embedded system development environment and analyses the embedded system software architecture and start process. Testing results of the system show that its functions and performances are achieved. In the end, a summary of the work which has been done is made, and the future of multi-service terminal's research is given.
