With the integration of Internet and multimedia applications in next generation wireless communications, the demand for wide-band high data rate communication services is growing. As the available radio spectrum is limited, higher data rates can be achieved only by designing more efficient signaling techniques. Recent research in information theory has shown that large gains in capacity of communication over wireless channels are feasible in multiple-input multiple output (MIMO) systems. It is the key technology must be adopted by the new generation of the wireless communication system.The research work of this paper is focused on the space-time detection algorithm of high data rate transmission technology of MIMO system, mainly including following aspects:Firstly, the mathematical model of MIMO and the information theory foundation of capacity of channels are analyzed. Some typical systems' capacity of channels are simulated and compared.Secondly, the main detection algorithms are theoretically analyzed, simulated and compared in the V-BLAST system.Thirdly, the sphere decoding algorithms are studied. The characteristics of some sphere decoding algorithms are investigated and compared with computer simulations. The extended application of sphere decoding algorithms in multiple symbol detection is further studied.Fourthly, the robustness of V-BLAST detection algorithms is analyzed. The influence of antenna array correlation, channel estimation errors and frequency offset on algorithms performance is mainly discussed.
