Biometrics which identifies the person by biological features such as fingerprint, palmprint, iris, face or behavioral features such as signature, voice is stable and unique. Biometrics technology can overcome the disadvantages of traditional identification and will replace the traditional identification in future.Palmprint identification is a new technology in biometrics technology. It identifies the person by the feature information in palmprint. Because the information of palmprint is unique, stable and credible, the identification system based on palmprint can be applied to security management, bank, working-attendance management etc. As a new research area, palmprint has been paid to palmprint identification.The palmprint technology gets more attention and it will become the new aspect of research and application in personal identification.This paper takes the palmprint as the object. It researches the key techniques and algorithms of palmprint identification system, and then develops a plamprint identification system. The main contents are as follows:1. Introduction of biometrics technology and palmprint identification.2. Introduction of the plamprint identification system. It introduces the framework of identification system and the researching of the technologies in system. Then, it presents the problems and solution of technologies.3. Acquisition of palmprint image. Developing a CCD online palmprint acquiring program with DirectShow technology. The program can drive the hardware, monitor and capture the palmprint image.4. Researching of palmprint location. Removing the noise in palmprint image and then locating the feature area of plamprint for the latter processing.5. Extraction of principal palm-line feature. A new structure extraction with mathematical morphology is presented to get the principal palm-line feature.6. Classification of plamprint feature. A palmprint classification algorithm is presented. This algorithm can quickly, availably classify the palmprint feature and reduce the time of matching.7. Matching of plamprint feature. For available data storage, SQL is used for the database.
