In recent years, with the growth of the number of network users and computers capabilities, there are strong requirements to share resources and information, which promotes the development of P2P technology. How to control network traffic is one of the key issues of P2P technology. At present, traffic caused by P2P network holds a large proportion of the whole network traffic, which has already affected the rest normal network flows. It is a hot topic to reduce P2P traffic effectively. In this paper, we resreach P2P networks technology deeply, analyze the BitTorrent network, and appliy GNP into P2P. We propose the S-RTT strategy to choose and connect seed nodes, which takes full account of the node download speed and the distance between nodes (RTT). Based on GNP technology and the S-RTT strategy, the BitTorrent File-sharing Model Based on S-RTT Strategy is proposed. Thus, the BitTorrent system can choose and connect the outstanding seeds with less network traffic. At last, we make a simulation to evaluate the performance of this BitTorrent file-sharing model based on S-RTT strategy. The contributions of this paper are in the following.1. In the existing BitTorrent systems, node speed is the only standard when BitTorrent systems decide which seed to choose. In our model, beside nodes speed, distance between nodes is also taken into account. These two standards guarantee the fast download speed, and can control network flow.2. In order to further control and reduce BitTorrent network flow, the S-RTT strategy is proposed to decide which seed to choice and connect to. This strategy divides seeds into four kinds, each of which has defferent processing. The simulation result showed that network flow is reduced obviously in our model.
