Target recognition technique plays an important role in many fields of modern war, such as battlefield command, ABM (antiballistic missile) air defense, precision-guided and so on.Tanks, aircrafts and warships, as movement and the engine driver will have their intrinsic vibration. Like voices, no two types of vehicles generate the same vibrational spectrum, which is an important parameter for determining the target. The laser echo information is processed and then we can contrast the spectrum difference to identify the target. This paper provides an overview of significance and background of target recognition, and its action in modern war, the current stage and development.Based on Michelson interferometer and the theory of coherent detection, this paper discusses the method to recognize the targets by measure their vibrational spectrum signature. The feasibility is proved by experiment. This method has advantages of simple structure, regulation, real-time measurement. It provides a method of target recognition.
