Broadband wireless access (BWA) technology is a very promising technology for broadband access, it has many advantages such as low price, rapid deployment, high scalability, lower maintenance and upgrade costs. Along with the evolution of Internet services, customers get great demand for high data rate, high performance and interoperable BWA products. Therefore, IEEE developed and published the 802.16 standards on broadband wireless access systems. In these standards, 802.16e is regarded as the only next generation broadband wireless technology which can compete with 3G at present. It uses the Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing technology on the physical layer and can apply to portable, low speed mobile and entire mobile scene, simultaneously supports the fixed scene. In this thesis, OFDM channel estimation algorithm is investigated based on the 802.16e physics layer standard. The 802.16e physics level standard, the OFDM basic principle as well as the pilot-symbol-aided channel estimation for OFDM systems are introduced, besides interpolation algorithms and polynomial fitting algorithm in piloted channel estimation are realized. The OFDM system Uplink simulation model and Downlink simulation model are established with Visual C++, and the performances of different channel estimation methods are compared and analysed under the PUSC assignment pattern. The results are:1. Under the tile structure in UL-PUSC and the cluster structure in DL-PUSC, the best algorithm is. polynomial fitting.2. About the PB3 rayleigh channel and the VA30 rayleigh channel, the tile structure adapts to the first one,but the cluster structure adapts to the second one.
