After many year's development, the cryptogram system of financial IC card has become mature. They are the Electronic Purchase based on symmetrical cipher arithmetic and the Financial credit and debit IC card based on unsymmetrical cipher arithmetic. These cipher arithmetic were developed from standard cryptogram system, so they are able to resistant to those normal mathematical arithmetic attack. They can ensure the relative safety of financial IC cards.But in the last few years, new kinds of cryptanalytic attack which are different from the traditional cryptanalysis have begun to appear in the literature。They target specific implementation details, so they are called side-channel attacks. These attacks have been successfully implemented against smart cards and other security tokens, so the study of solutions for preventing side-channel analysis becoming very important. This graduation thesis focuses on power attack for financial ICC, and investigates the solutions against this type of side-channel attack. This article first gives the mathematical and cryptographic background on symmetrical and unsymmetrical cipher arithmetic. Secondly, it simply explains the security system of financial ICC that was in used currently, presents standardized protocols, and introduces the basic conception of power attack. Then this thesis introduces the ways to protect financial ICC from the power attack, particularly, a low-cost method to protect against power attack: side-channel atomicity, and investigates techniques for automating this process as well.
