Ytterbium doped potassium yttrium tungstate (Yb:KY(W04)2 ,abbreviated Yb:KYW) is a kind of solid laser material which is apt to LD pump, it can send out femitosecond laser.In this paper, Yb:KYW crystal was grown by Top Seeded Solvent Growth( TSSG) method ,using K2W2O7 as flux, the properties of Yb:KYW crystal were researched based on the study of the choice of the growing method, the raw material pre-processing , the growth technology and the annealing technology .the structure of the crystal was assured by X-ray diffraction ,the constant of the structure is a=1.067nm,b=1.038nm,c=0.759nm,β=130.75°. the IR spectra and Raman spectra were also be assigned. The melting point (T=1045℃)and the phase transition point (T=1010℃)were obtained by TG-DTA analysis, there is no other changes under the melting point besides the phase transition .The absorption spectra and the fluorescence spectrum were measured, the absorption cross section and emission cross section were calculated. We adopted the InGaAs semiconductor whose wavelength was 940nm to pumped the crystal, at the condition of the coupling efficiency of the coupling lens T1.03μm was 5%, the continuous pumped power was 1W, we obtained the laser output was 112.3mW, the light to light conversion efficiency was 11.2%, the slope efficiency was larger than 35%; while pumped by 940nm LD and the continuous power is 10W, we obtained the power of laser output is 2W and the wavelength is 1030nm the light to light efficiency is 20%.
