During recent years, the businesses of Internet, Multi-media and Digital-mobile-communications have been developed at a very fast speed; they have brought great pressure to the present communication network. The WDM AON has become the first choice to develop the transmission network; and OADM is one of the key techniques to construct it. Developing reconfigurable OADMs with excellent performances is a trend in optical communication field. In this paper, a novel reconfigurable OADM based on Fabry-Perot (F-P) optical filter is presented after reviewing the recent progress for OADM researches. And theoretical analysis and experimental research have been made. The main content of my thesis is as follows:Introduced the conception and importance of OADM in the AON in the future, systemically sums up the developmental status of OADM, the superiority that OADM provides with AON, the expansive market foreground of OADM and the category of OADM; Introduces the structures and theory of kinds of the OADMs, which have been reported natively and in abroad.Proposed a novel reconfigurable OADM based on Fabry-Perot (F-P) optical filter, and introduced the basic structure and working principle. C-lens collimator is one kind of new series of collimators developed in recent years. In this paper we studied the characteristics of C-lens collimator through Gauss Optics and Matrix Optics theories. Introduced another important component in the design: piezoelectric translator (PZT).Introduced the basic theory on F-P cavity, and gave the relations of the parameters. The non-parallelism of F-P cavity will affect the final performances of OADM directly, such as the insertion loss. Based on the multi-beam interference principle, it was derived that the expression of the intensity of the transmitted beam for a Gaussian beam passing through a nonparallel F-P cavity.Analyzed the crosstalk in the novel OADM and deduced the power penalty. Based on F-P cavity theory, the isolation is calculated, which evaluate the inter-band crosstalk, and the character is analyzed in detail. Introduced the experimental research on the component, including the manufactural procedure, test method and test result. In addition, we improved the OADM, which got better performance.
