Basically all gateway level websites are built with CMS; a library is an important institution for the society to share and spread information as an essential medium connecting users and information resources. The characteristics of CMS have quite a few similarities with those of libraries since libraries are the organization that administrates and organizes information while CMS regards everything as content and administrates the same. CMS has plenty of inherent advantages on its application in libraries while, further more, all the information, resources, professional teams and information equipment possessed by libraries provide material foundations and convenient conditions for the application. Here the author is attempting to study the overall and systematic application of CMS in the field of libraries in order to put forward theoretical guidelines and execution methods.The application of CMS in building websites started from 2003 in the China. Its technicality and convenience meet the urgent demand of a many heads of individual websites while, at the same time, gateway level websites are starved for the characteristic of strict management of CMS. The development of CMS has boomed since its entering China. In the early stage of its development, it is mainly from the application of modified famous foreign business CMS. Later, lots of famous domestic firms began to debut commerce CMS, and applied it to government, media, ICP and corporation.
