High-speed progress of Internet, embedded system, and DSP (Digital Signal Processor) has now developed far beyond our anticipation. Along with the Digital Video technology will reshape the outlook of the entire electronic industry undoubtedly. In fact, digital video technology also makes profound changes in our digital experience, transmission as well as interactive transaction, and it has been entered the domain of car, computer, mobile phone, network, etc. ARM (Advanced RISC Machine) embedded system and DSP are widely used in everywhere nowadays, for example: PDA (Personal Digital Assistant), digital top box, digital camera, and digital TV. With the advanced technology of the SoC (System on Chip), embedded processor inner resources are more and more complicated so that it does not work efficiently without operating system. So it will be very meaningful to port the embedded operating system and build the application development environment.This paper adopts ARM+DSP TMS320DM6446-based embedded processor evaluation board to realize an embedded operating system booting programme—Bootloader which has multi-ply boot mode and downloading interface, and to build an integrated development platform of the embedded Digital Video system. The development of the embedded application system must base on an efficient and integrated platform, which is necessary to use the resource of the hardware sufficiently. To begin with, the Host-side that is for DM6446 ARM-side Cross-compile environment and DSP-side with DSP/BIOS Link-compile environment were set up. Then according to the booting regulations of the DM6446 and EVM hardware specialities, a Bootloader programme was designed for different types of Flash-ROM. Subsequentaly, In order to meet user's demand under varies conditions, the function of file-downloading was realized via three common communication ports (UART, Ethernet0, USB) for Bootloader. Further, the Flashing code of the NOR & NAND Flash was appended to the Bootloader. The embedded operating system can be ported to the EVM successfully with the supply of the Bootloader. Thus the whole development platform has been finished. A portable, fast and secure embedded web server as well as an instance of Audio/Video encode/decode arithmetic was designed in order to test the environment.The whole design applied the embedded software designing technology, microprocessors technology, Internet technology, digital video technology and so on. All in all, the DM6446 EVM board will become a flexible platform which is suitable for developing digital video products based on the Audio/Video standard of G711, MPEG-4, H.264, AVS, etc.
