Eye gaze tracking is one of the key techniques of the intelligent interface in the future between human and computerized devices and has widespread prospects of application in industry control, robotics and clinical medicine. Un-contacted eye gaze tracking technique, which has a less influence on users, could provides a better interface. However, its better capabilities are at the expense of computational complexity. As a result, general purpose MPU cannot satisfy the requirement of the eye gaze tracking real-time application. Due to its excellent parallel processing ability and signal processing capacity, the C64xx series chips of TI corporation is a perfect platform to run eye gaze tracking system.This paper mainly researches on key technology of eye gaze tracking and its implement on TI-DSP DM642. This dissertation includes following contents:1. The evolution and current status of eye gaze tracking technology are briefly presented .Then the key techniques in eye gaze tracking is discussed.2. The algorithm to detect and locate the pupil and glints in eye images is studied. Based on the brightness histogram of the eye image, the thresholds for extraction of the pupil and corneal reflection are automated; On the basis of the brightness, gradient of the edge points of the pupil and the smoothness of the pupil boundary, the edge points could be obtained. And a new randomized method of ellipse fitting to the edge points is presented.3. To capture eye images with good quality in the eye-gaze tracking system, a technique to track and aim at the eye is proposed, and an automatic method, which combines the regulation of the aperture with the adjustment of the focus of the camera lens, is developed. This system can adapt to external lighting changes and to the head movements, and it can track the eye and acquire clear eye images in real-time. The drawback of intensive labor is eliminated and the accuracy is improved.4. Multi-threading calibration system is developed, which brings in Microsoft COM technology, could reduce error caused by individual differences.5. Based on the study of the hardware structure of the DSP chip, we choose ICETECK TMSDM642 EVM as our hardware platform. On the basis of the hardware selection, the thesis analyzes the structure and functions of the kernel of DSP/BIOS, it also discusses the components and work principle of RF5 Reference Framework. Based on this Reference Framework, we develop eye gaze tracking system on DM642 and do some optimization.
