As the newest development of the wireless communications, cognitive radio is a landmark. Its concepts and development are introduced at the beginning of this paper. The purpose and significance of research are also shown. Then, the system structure of cognitive radio is given, a basic simulation model is constructed, and the crucial techniques of cognitive radio, such as spectrum sensing, spectrum allocation and transmit power control are briefly discussed. Because the transmit power control, one of the key techniques of cognitive radio, has not been fully investigated yet, this paper researches the distributed power control algorithm of cognitive radio based on the game theory. After introducing the basic principle of game theory and the non-cooperative power control game model, this paper take the analyses on the utility and pricing functions. Through the detailed analyses on the present non-cooperative power control game algorithm, a simplified algorithm is proposed. Furthermore, a new pricing mechanism called path gain pricing is proposed, and a new non-cooperative power control game based on the new pricing is established. The simulation results show that the new game model improves the performance of the present model in utility function and transmit power.
