Research On MAC Protocols In Tactical Mobile Ad Hoc Networks

This paper first introduces basic knowledge and main technology of tactical mobile Ad Hoc networks (MANET) and Media Access Control Protocols of Ad Hoc network. After current Media Access Control protocols of Ad Hoc network being analyzed, a new MAC protocol (PCC-TDMA) based on characters of tactical MANETs is proposed for tactical MANETs. PCC-TDMA algorithm introduces contention mechanism based on fixed TDMA. With sending controlling information and contention with BC algorithm in time slots, this protocol greatly reduces collision and end-to-end delay of MANETs.This paper builds simulation models of tactical MANETs with using OPNET software and does a series of simulation on different parameters of network scale and load of network. From these simulations, some data and diagrams including end-to-end delay and throughput are obtained. Extensive simulations demonstrate that the proposed MAC protocol has good performance in both throughput and network delay.The paper explores an approach to study tactical MANETs and studies the effects of proposed algorithm with various parameters.The work provides simulation of realization and performance estimation of tactical MANETs.
