In recent years, the computer graphics has obtained an exceptionally swift and significant development with new theories and methods unceasingly emerging. From the analysis of the development of the computer graphics, it is not difficult to discover that each breakthrough of the computer graphics is closely related to the innovation of the graphic processing hardware. The present paper introduces a recently designed GPU chip on the basis of the fundamental principles of graphics image processing systems and of computer graphics algorithms. The configuration, function and the design of this specific chip are investigated. While its configuration and functional module segmenting are analyzed, the design method of each module is also presented. Moreover, this paper specifies the design of the host interface module, local memory interface and video timing interface modules, which fairly embodies the low-power and high-performance thought in chip design. However, the verification of the GPU chips is getting more and more challenging by virtue of their upgrading. As it is known, the verification accuracy directly correlates with the accuracy rate of the chips'logic functions. Immense risk and manufacturing cost would be induced due to the logic function errors resulting from the insufficient verification. This fact leads the present paper to adopt the Enhanced NanoSim-VCS (E-NS-VCS) as the simulation instrument to be in accordance with the particular chip designing. The simulation environment including the Verilog simulation models is as well constructed where the overall functions of that specific chip are verified. In addition, this paper also specifies the construction of the simulation platform, the simulating methodology and the verification strategies which contribute to the verification of the functions of that specific chip. At last the design and verification are fulfilled and the chip is taped out.
