Visual detection technology is built on the research of computer vision on the basis of a new detection technique. Through the optical imaging technologies to obtain images of detected objects, use digital image processing technology, ultimately acquire the characteristics of the detected objects on the information. The technology has automated, objectivity, non-contact and high precision characteristics, is widely used in the production of industrial automation in the field of detection. In this paper, a measurement programme based on visual inspection was brought out, viewing of the current status quo of domestic marine anchor chain's length test. According to the anchor chain length measurement: pentacyclic length, single-ring length, width and chain diameter measurement requirements, the accuracy for the system was calculated. Identified CCD camera, lens, image acquisition card and lighting equipment, by analyzing measurements and hardware specifications Model. Finally, analysed anchor chain itself's shape with the characteristics of the target hardware products, developed the anchor chain length parameter measurement method.Introduced digital image processing technologies used in the detection system: such as median Filtering methods, mathematical morphology, Sobel operator Edge Detection and sub-pixel precision positioning. In particular, raised a proposal of adding feature marker in the backgrand for the image joining. Noted and deduced the system calibration method, formula. Finally, analysised and calculated the entire system error, presented a method of error correction and experimental datas before and after the experiment which reached a anchor chain measurement requirements.
