Casing damage is one of the most serious problems in exploiting oil and gas wells, and it has caused enormous losses in economy. The DHV HawkEye Video System, a new technology in logging, has currently been utilized in oil fields and simultaneously played an important role in casing damage inspection. It directly scans and screens to the shaft and casing inwall with the CCD cameras to detect the casing damage. However, it is mainly restricted by some factors. As obtained casing images have much noise and blurry edges, these make it difficult in casing deformation, corrosion perforation, tube dislocation and rupture. Our contributions are as follows.(1) We obtained the details of deformed casing based on imaging and implemented position, quantity and optimization in simulating detection of casing, as we diagnose the problems in detecting casing damages. In this procedure, it mentioned computer graphic, digital imaging and mathematical morphology for image preprocessing and edge tracking. This is valuable and safe in oil and gas exploitation.(2) We presented an omnidirectional morphological algorithm with weighted adaptation to filter the images of casing damage obtained in the obscuration. It introduced a structure with weighted combination. The results showed that, compared with the traditional filtering methods, our method effectively removed the white Gaussian noise and improved the accuracy in quantitative interpretation.(3) We presented an improved algorithm of omnidirectional multiscale morphology to implement the casing images analysis. As it mentions morphology and multiscale structure to change the size, we can recognize the contour in casing damage.(4) We obtained quantitative interpretation of casing deformation and printed its report from digital imaging.(5) We designed and developed software based on detecting casing damage. Our experiments showed that quantitative method was accurate and reliable and improved downhole video logging.
