Electromagnetic pulse (EMP) coupling to phased array radar T/R module and Ultra-wideband (UWB) antenna design applied in the emerging UWB wireless communication systems are deeply studied in this dissertation. With arrival of the information age and the rapid development of microelectronics technology, microelectronics equipment is widely applied. Integrated microelectronics equipment is interfered by electromagnetic pulse. In this dissertation, we first studied electromagnetic pulse (EMP) coupling to phased array radar T/R module. First, phased array radar T/R module injury judgment formula is given by the front door of electromagnetic pulse coupling and phased array radar system front door reinforcement technology is given by the analysis of sensitive devices damage threshold of T/R module. Then the vector matching algorithm is implemented by Matlab simulation, and a calculation example shows that the fitting method is effective. Finally the carbon fiber composite material is modeled and its surface impedance is calculated using the vector matching approach, then the shielding effectiveness and different time space electromagnetic field distribution of this composite material is given. We also studied UWB techniques in this dissertation. UWB techniques have typical characteristics including large bandwidth occupying several GHz and extremely short pulse transmitted without carrier. Considering the specialties of signals and practical application environment, UWB systems require the antennas with more rigorous electrical and physical performance than those of traditional narrow-band or wideband antenna. Hence, these conventional antennas will not be suitable in such systems anymore and new types of UWB antennas are desirable. In this dissertation, three aspects of UWB antenna are discussed, including the basic design theories of microstrip, UWB antenna design, multi-antenna coupling. First we studied basic theory, based on the theoretical analysis of impulse signals in radiating and receiving procedures. The reciprocal relations between transmit and receive antennas is no longer effective. The response of transmit is proportional to the time derivative of the received signal, this conclusion is verified by simulation and measurement. Then we discussed basic theory of microstrip antenna and wide band technology. At Last, a compact novel planar monopole antenna is proposed for UWB antenna. Simulated and measured results show that the antenna is suitable for UWB wireless communication. The array structure and the best array spacing are obtained by the analysis and measurement of the mutual coupling effects on multi-antenna reception system.
