Resonant fiber optic gyroscope (FOG) is an inertial sensor based on Sagnac effect to measure the angle velocity of rotation body, and the ring resonator is the core sensing element in the resonant FOG. In this thsis, the theory of resonant FOG is researched first. The resonation characteristic of the key component—ring resonator are analyzed deeply. The analysis illustrates the impaction of the main parameters of resonator (including loss, Coupling coefficient and finesse )on the resonant characteristic. The main optical devices in the system and the making process are analysed based on the theoretical study, the fiber ring resonator development is completed. Then a kind of test device of ring resonator is proposed and established, testing of resonant is completed in the laboratory,the main performance parameters of ring resonator is obtained,the finesse reached 114.3. Such tests show that design of ring resonator can generally satisfy the system design requirement, also provided technical support to the research projects.
