This paper mainly uses microscopic traffic simulation software to study the shockwave. Shockwave will cause queuing, disorder and even traffic jams. It not only affects urban expressway upriver traffic flow, form a mobile traffic bottlenecks, decrease the capacity of the road sections; but also is the inducement for the traffic accidents on the urban expressway. In the propagation and dissipation process of the shockwaves, the frequent acceleration and deceleration of vehicles cause increased fuel consumption and exacerbated pollution of the surrounding environment. The study of the urban expressway shockwaves is just at the initial stage. The study on the phenomenon of shockwaves is scarce. Because of the propagation characteristics of shockwaves, it is difficult to collect a Complete data. So using the microscopic traffic simulation software on the shockwaves research become a good choice.In this paper, we defined the different situation of the shockwaves in microscopic traffic simulation. Analysed the process of the formation, propagation and dissipation of shockwaves. presented its five state may arise, discovered some rules never been found. Then we analysed the impact of related parameters, by comparing the results, we found the clear impact relationship. Based on the analysing of existing car-following models and the researches of actual and simulated shockwaves, we gave the car-following models much more suit the shockwave conditions.
