As the transmission capacity of modern communication systems constantly expands, traditional methods of information exchange are no longer able to meet the growing needs of business data. Thus, people introduce the photonic switching technology into the systems, forming the all-optical switching network. The optical switching matrix is the core of all-optical switching systems, therefore, how to design an excellent optical switching matrix has become one of the important tasks of optical communications. In this thesis, a new type of generally modified dilated Benes switch network which has low crosstalk is proposed. The experimental platform is constructed, and a detailed analysis of its exchange properties is given. Then the dynamic exchange of the optical link in the form of optical burst switching is completed base on the platform. Meanwhile, as wireless access network is more and more widely used, we designed a wireless access point equipment base on PowerPC which is a communications processor. Finally we apply the optical switching matrix to a wireless LAN, forming a new type of optical wireless exchange equipment. This is of great importance to the FTTH. Major subjects in this thesis are discussed as follows:(1) Based on the widely learning of relative references, a review has been made about the research work of all-optical switch in and abroad, the development of all-optic exchange and some methods of optic exchange are introduced. And introduce the key instrument of all-optic exchange network-OXC.(2) Kinds of switch networks are introduced, then a detailed analysis about the network presented in this thesis is given.(3) An experimental platform base on the optical switch network is constructed. Then a smart method to form the dynamic switch of the optical circuit is proposed, meanwhile an experiment is made about the transmission of the packets on the platform. (4) he advantages and disadvantages of WLAN are introduced. A wireless access point equipment is designed, detailed explanations of the principles and functions of its realization are given, and some experiments about it are made.(5) The research work on optical wireless access point is summarized. The success experience and lessons gained are discussed. Several improvement ideas are put forward.
