Virtual reality has been widely used in the fields such as distance learning, virtual shopping, electric power system, flying simulation, digital earth, etc. These application need only realism complex Virtual Environment, but require the user can interact with the virtual scene at interaction frame rate. Virtual reality communities and other visualizations have always faced the problem that their "desirable" visualization dataset sizes. This paper analyzes some key technologies about simulation modeling, fast rendering, model simplification.Firstly,this paper describes some technologies about simulation modeling in complex virtual scene. Then,a new approach to complex engineering modeling and simulation is presented. In the first step , which is oriented to the realistic engineering technicians, a hierarchy method is used to modeling the tasks of the complex engineering, in next step, which is oriented to the simulation technicians, a modularization method is used to modeling the action of the simulation entities. Thus the complexity of the simulation is reduced by allocating different tasks to their experts and the adoption of the hierarchy and the modularization methods. An example is given to prove its application.Secondly, this paper describes some technologies about fast rendering such as visibility clipping, Pre-Processing on graphics, level of detail, multi-resolution modeling etc.Then,based on quadric error metrics and vertex classification, a new method of triangle mesh simplification was proposed. It first determinates feature edge, and then sorts vertex based on incident feature, finally controls half-edge collapse based on vertex type and quadric error metric. Examples have shown that method of mesh simplification is simple and efficient.Finally,a simulation system of laser equipment building was developed based on hierarchy and modularization method, mesh simplification. Examples have shown that method of modeling and mesh simplification is efficient.
