With the development of data communication and IP service, IP network basedon package switch has been widely applied because of its availability andopenness. Based on the development of IP network, it is predicted that allcommunication service will be integrated in IP network with a new concept:NGN(Next Generation Network). NGN is based on package switch, providing voicecommunication, data communication and multimedia service. It can providereal-time and non-real-time service. NGN connects with all network appliedpresently and integrates with them. NGN is compatible with telecomm serviceand Internet service, with a view to promptly create a favorable environmentfor new service. H. 248 is the standard protocol to implement voicecommunication under NGN.I took H. 248 protocol in communication network application as my research topic.By joining in the test of protocol H. 248 in ZXSS10 SS1b which is the softswitchequipment of ZTE corporation, I investigated the design principles of thesoftswitch equipment and the application of protocol H. 248 in communicationservice. According to the PSTN communication service standard, I tested allthe service applied by ZXSS10 SS1b in H. 248, proved the protocol applicationprocess, made it satisfactory with the existing communication service requests.By modifying tone resource in media gateway, I advanced that under H. 248protocol the signal tone customer heard can be changed.Through good behavior in tests, H. 248 protocol proves itself able to applyall the communication service applied in the PSTN with better expansibility.
