Reverse engineering is an important way of rapid manufacture and creative product development, which is widely used in automobile and home appliances. Three-dimensional modeling and modification by using measured 3D data of product can improve design and development ability remarkably, so surface reconstruction and modification by scattered 3D data is a hot research topic at present. In this dissertation, the author systematically studies and implements the theory of surface reconstruction and deformation based on measured 3D data. Following are the primary works:The thesis first introduces the collection of 3D scattered data, and does some advance disposition, including data partition and predigestion. Secondly, the thesis presents a surface reconstruction algorithm based on the concept and theory about triangulation, using the idea of min-max box to project the scattered 3D data onto 2D surface in order to implement triangulation, and returns the structure to 3D space. Then, the thesis generalizes the development of surface deformation technology, emphasizes free-form deformation technology, and proposes a simplified direct free-form deformation method on the basis of this theory and min-max box theory, which can bring local surface deformation simply and effectively. In the end, the thesis gives the example, implements the function of surface reconstruction and deformation.
