With the rapid development of information technology and computer network, Embedded System has been widely used in the field of industrial control where all kinds of intelligent control equipments want an Embedded Operating System with characteristics of high reliability and real-time perfamance and easily to be transplanted.Embedded Linux that is widely used in Electric Fault Wave Recorder nowadays has many advantages in open-source code, low-cost, stability and reliability, but it's in essence a generic share-time operating system and it is seized of some limitations in real-time performance which seriously hinder the overall capability of the Electric Fault Wave Recorder. Research on improving the real-time performance of Embedded Linux is a very practical problem. This thesis mainly deals with the research on improving the real-time performance of Embedded Linux's and its application in Electric Fault Wave Recorder. This paper firstly analyse factors that restrict the real-time performances of Linux, such as interrupt, process scheduler and timer, and then puts forwards some feasible motheds to improve the real-time capability of Embedded Linux. The framework and the mechanism of RT-Linux is emphatically researched and analysed in this paper.Components and realization technique of embedded real-time Linux are studied in this paper next. According to the overall design and fuctions of Electric Fault Wave Recorder, dual-core strategy is adopted in this paper to expand the hard real-time characteristic. This paper illustrates the design of real-time embedded Linux system which is composed of RT-Linux real-time kernel modules and standard Linux kernel. Without interfering with the original premise of Linux, a good immediate response capability is achieved. Finally in this thesis, the application of Electric Fault Wave Recorder based on such an embedded real-time Linux system platform is complemented, including a PCI interface card driver, real-time task modules, background application programmes and multi-task communications.
