With the development of Internet and computer technology, there are more and more new characteristics on applications and users in the Internet: Personal computers are becoming more and more powerful, and users' demands are changing. The new applications include file-share, dummy community, audio/video contact(order), IPTV as well as games on the Internet. All of these applications are characterized by one-to-many or many-to-many communication which require network providing the guarantee of Qos. While IP multicast cannot be employed for many years, so researchers began to realize application level multicast to provide group-cast service, using the resource of edge-users among the Internet. The basic idea of application level multicast is: realization multicast on application layer without changing the infrastructure of network, independent of network layer. There are several points in this paper as follows:(1) Application level multicast analysisDeeply analyzes some instances of application level multicast, find and compare the characteristics of each other, and give a improvement solution for their flaw.(2) Application level multicast design(3) Node failure processingMost designs are care about how to use multicast tree to provide service, but few have considered how to cope with node failure. They simply let all of the affected nodes to rejoin the multicast tree, which result in delay unavoidable. We give a solution called multi-nodes reliable multicast, MNRM for short, to cope with node failure.(4) The evaluation of MNRM...
