With the evolvement of the graphic hardware and the developmentof rendering algorithms in recent years, the real-time rendering of naturalscene has become an important and highly active area inresearch.Meanwhile, lots of great render engines come forth which arewidely implemented in the field of electronic games and engineeringemulations. This thesis presents the design and implementation of arapid, effective scene engine which provides the management of virtualforest simulation. Studies can be concluded as following:By analyzing the mechanism and framework of 3D engine, the thesisdescribes the whole design scheme of VFO-MLSE, taking thecharacteristics of virtual forest into consideration. Multi-variates dataintegration, scene rendering and user interaction are combined together within it by means of scene layers.First of all,the Perlin Noise Function isutilized to build the terrain grid layer which is the base of view-dependentdynamic multi-resolution terrain model. Then the thesis explains thetechnique of model simplification and vertex culling for that renderingspeed's improved. For the sake of effect optimization, physiognomytextures and lightmap are added into the virtual scene, accompanying withseveral rendering effect and environment objects.Base on above researchfinally the studies introduces the prototype system VFS which makes useof the VFO-MLSE to realize the whole simulation of forest.
