The automatic acquisition system of water data in irrigation districts is an information system which can achieve the real-time data acquisition, submit and processing using telemetry, communication and computer technology. It is a multi-disciplinary, multi-technology in the field of water data applications. In the automatic acquisition system of water data, the Remote Terminal Unit(RTU)sends water data to the Control Center. The means of communication adopted is an important issue to be analyzed and studied. The research task which transmits water data by the use of SMS is put forward in the design. It makes water data transmit on time and avoid the deficiency of manual forecasting or on-line monitoring. It can transmit 140 characters one time by SMS, but for the water data transmission it has been fully meet requirements.The hardware and software design of data acquisition system is given in this article. The system is composed of two parts: RTU and Control Center. The RTU and the Control Center establish communication links via the GSM network. The water level information on the scene is sent to the control center on SMS channel by the RTU after data processing, the water data received is go to next processing in the Control Center.The RTU includes the water level sensor, amplifier, A/D converter circuit, microcontroller and external circuit, GSM module, power supply etc. The water data acquired by sensor is sent into MCU, after amplification, A/D conversion. The digital filtering and data processing are completed in the MCU and then the water data is sent to the Control Center by GSM module. Meanwhile, MCU can also accept the data acquisition command from the Control Center, it can also accomplish the regular work of automatic dial-up and data transferring.We have finished design of Control Center in automatic acquisition system of water data. The realization of the system is introduced in the paper. The Control Center includes industrial computer, GSM module and related control management software. The water data received by GSM module from the RTU is transformed into standard RS232 signals and data is stored in the industrial computer for next step analysis. We choose SQL Server as database platform and use Visual Basic for software programming. The control software has the characteristic of Chinese character interface and with function of history query, result analysis, on-line prints and real-time data acquisition.
