Virtual Reality technology provides new method for visualization research in various fields including Agriculture. Virtual Plant is the application of Virtual Reality technology in Agriculture area. It simulates the growing process of plants in Three-Dimension Space in Computer, and reflects the morphological architecture rules of plants. In addition, it is a newly-rising research area as the development of information technology and has become one of the focuses in Computer Science area. Firstly, this dissertation simply introduces recent achievements and progresses in plant growth simulation, and then research the Multi-grain model of virtual plant growing process from the view of the morphogenesis model and visualization model, in which the Multi-grain means the demonstration of virtual plants in various angles. From a whole plant to parts and then to organs, the Multi-grain model is able to demonstrate the mechanism and morphology of plants in different levels.In this dissertation, the main researches and achievements are as follows:①Combining the L-system and Bézier surface, this paper describes the modeling method of plant organs. And then taking orange blossom for example, it constructs the whole growing process models of fruit of fruit tree from bud to blossom to fruitage. In addition, the model of orange leaf is built.②A plant modeling method employing both Dual-Scale Automation Model and L-system was proposed. First, to model the complex plants, the Dual-Scale Automation Model was improved. A more concise and explicit constructing method was proposed, as well as an Automation with pruning function. Second, the general method of transforming Dual-Scale Automation Model to L-system which enhances the modeling efficiency by these two modeling method completing each other was proposed.③From the view of fruit tree cultivation, this dissertation deeply studies the physiology mechanism of pruned orange tree growing, and constructs the growing models of braches of different level and the whole tree using improved Dual-Scale Automation and L-system. In the growing model of the whole tree, the effects by pruning were considered, and an empirical growing model from seedling to adult tree in the cultivation condition is built.④The experiment of the Multi-grain model of orange was accomplished in L-studio. The results demonstrate the whole growing process of orange tree from seedling to adult tree with fruits, and the virtual growing effect of various level models from organs to branches to the whole tree.
