Design And Implementation Of Embedded SNMP Agent Based On OSI Protocol Suite

Along with the development of information society, the scale of network interconnection is larger and larger, and the network equipments are more and more multiple. To resolve the problem of interconnection between hetero network equipments, there is an urgent need for many manufactures to develop equipments accroding with the network management standards. The network equipment providers must embed an agent into the managed equipment to collect and keep the equipment's information and provide accessing interfaces for the manager. The embedded agent, which is a server-end software, belongs to the network management software. To make an agent, there is a lot of work to do, including user interface, presentation of network management information, application of network management, transmission service of network management data, MIB accessing, communication protocol stacks, etc. The research's goal is to design and implement a kind of Embedded SNMP Agent Based on OSI Protocol Suite. When it is embedded into the OSI network equipment, then the OSI network equipment is provided with SNMP Network Management capability, so the OSI network equipment in hetero network environment could be unitedly managed by SNMP Network Management.First, the paper introduces the background and the meaning of the research, then it summarizes the researching status of Embedded SNMP Agent Based on OSI Protocol Suite. It summarizes the knowledge of SNMP Network Mangement and OSI Protocol Suite subsequently.In the General Design part, it presents the development and application environment of the Embedded SNMP Agent Based on OSI Protocol Suite, and designs the SNMP protocol framework based on OSI Protocol Suite.The paper's researching emphasizes on the design and implementation of SNMP Network Management's data transmission service over OSI Protocol Suite, which contains three main matters. First, OSISocket interfaces based on OSI Protocol Suite. Second, MIB Variables of OSI Protocol Suite. Third, SNMP server process based on OSIScoket interfaces. In the Detailed Design and Implementation part, it describes the resarch's three main matters in detail, and does a simple get/set function test to the SNMP server process.Finally, the paper makes a summary of the researching work, and describes other modules'work required to implement all the agent's functions.
