High-speed data switching technology is a data transport technology, which can provide wider bandwidth, better compatibility and higher performance than traditional bus technologies, such as PCI and so on. It uses"Switch Fabric"mechanism and has taken an important effect in research fields of computer architecture, distributed computing, integrating avionics and so on.In this paper, six representative technologies are discussed in aspects such as specification features, maturation degree, commercialization degree and so on. They are StarFabric, RapidIO, InfiniBand, PCI-Express, HyperTransport and RACEway.In the next place, the feasibility of the StarFabric technology has been discussed. Meanwhile, introduce the specification features and working principles of the main StarFabric protocol chips: SG1010 and SG2010. After that, the paper gives the method on how to analyse the system which is made up of SG1010 and SG2010.At last, a complete blue print of the high-speed switch based on StarFabric technology has been brought forward in this paper, include the hardware design and the software design. In the hardware design, the paper focused on the topology design of the core switching net, and how the hardware can ensure all the switch functions. In the software design, first discussed the entire working flow of the high-speed switch, emphasize the path routing principle, register mapping principle and StarFabric network initialization. And then gives the software design process, particularly in three important program modules. Finally, validate the software though an experimental environment.The hardware of the high-speed switch based on StarFabric technology is still at process when this paper is completed. The conclusion made by the paper is mostly based on the experimental environment. The debugging of the real switch will be developed since the hardware is back.
