Compared to most traditional antennas, microstrip patch antennas have many advantages: small volumes, low profiles, good integration and low costs. With these advantages and good performance, microstrip patch antennas are widely adopted in many fields. The coming of 3G leads to the demand for low-profile, integrated and multi-band antennas because of the miniaturized telecommunication equipments. So the microstrip patch antennas for the TD-SCDMA terminals will have good prospect.The main task of this thesis is to design the miniaturized microstrip patch antennas for TD-SCDMA terminals. There is plenty of research on dual-band microstrip antennas in recent years. The dual-band can be achieved by three methods mainly: 1) multi-patch; 2) slots; 3) lumped elements. Among the above ways, multi-patch and lumped elements will cause antennas complicated. Whereas to add slots is a simple method to achieve dual-band on a single patch and is very easy to fabricate and integrate with circuits. Particularly, L-shape and U-shape slots are very common. Based on plentiful research, a new type of miniaturized microstrip patch antennas for TD-SCDMA terminals, which is loaded with both double U-slots and a shorting wall, has been proposed. This type of antenna is easy to analyze, fabricate and adjust. In this paper, firstly, according to the resonance principle, the dimension of the miniature and multi-band microstrip antenna is calculated. Next, the parameters are simulated and optimized with electromagnetic simulation software Zeland IE3D. Finally, a practical antenna is designed and tested. The results of simulation and test verified the rationality and feasibility of work in the thesis.
