In recent years Internet has revealed a significant trend. The use of P2P service on Internet has grown far more rapidly than browsing in the WWW. Internet Service Providers (ISPs) experience an amount of P2P traffic which dominates the Internet access and is significant in WAN. Furthermore, P2P service has been introduced to mobile communication networks and it is more and more widely utilized. However, P2P service not only brings convenience to the users, but also causes problems to current network, such as network congestion. In consequence, it is very important to control P2P service, of which the base problem is P2P service identification method. At the same time, with the development of IMS specifications presented by 3GPP, IMS has become an international, recognized standard, which is able to support resource management and charging. Thus the new P2P service identification method is studied in the paper, as well as the realization of resource management and charging in IMS network. An integrated solution for P2P service in 3G network based on IMS is also presented in this paper.The analysis of current IMS network is done in this paper, and certain modification is made for the identification, management and charging for P2P service. Some functions are modified and several new functions are added in the network. With the modification, the new network architecture is designed.The analysis of P2P working mechanism is done in the paper, as well as the analysis of recognition mechanism. A new identification method for P2P service based on connection is proposed. The integrated identification method including three identification methods is able to work efficiently in various situations.The procedures of resource management and charging are designed for P2P service.The integrated solution for P2P service is well supported by current IMS network and able to make the management and charging for P2P service. The identification method for P2P service based on connection is efficient to recognize P2P service in various scenarios. The integrated solution for P2P service is able to identify, manage and charge for P2P service, which leads a new direction for P2P service management.
