With the development of information technology, secure identity identification technology becomes the key problem in many systems. Due to their uniqueness and stability,fingerprints data acquisition is the most pivotal sector in the fingerprint identification technology. As the rapid development of biometrics identification and fingerprint sensors,the application of fingerprint identification is much wider.high quality fingerprint image acquisition will become a significant issue.This disseration is about the study and disige of an automatic fingerprint acquisition system based on ARM. According to the process of design, the system can be divided into two components: the collection of fingerprint;the transmission of data. To meet the needs of modem technique and system realization,the structure of the system is designed properly and the devices in the system are selected carefully. The main hardware of the system consists of ARM S3C44B0X of Samsung and CPLD (Complex Programmable Logic Device) EPM240 of ALTERA.Based on the above hardware, this system achieves six main functions as following: introducing the principle and the method of the fingerprint identification, and comparing the characters of three type of fingerprint sensors;Designing the hardware system of the embedded fingerprint acquisition system that mainly consists of Samsung ARM and MBF200 capacitor fingerprint sensor;compiling initialization program, fingerprint gathering program, data transmitting program with C language in ADS1.2; adopting the advanced technic of USB achieve the communication between. the system and the computer to change dates. the design improved the transmit speed greatly; congrolling the logic of the signals of the devices of system by CPLD; using flash SST39VF160 of SST stores Boot loader.Integral notion of system design is brought out at the beginging of the disseration, Afterwords, introduces the designations of system by hardware and software. The main job of this disseration as follow: select the chip; go deep into study the characteristic of the chip such as ARM/CPLD/USB etc, then design circuitry of the system and how to test the system. At last, some problems encountered in system debugging and methord how to solve them are brough out. and some suggestions for system optimization are also provided.
