The ultimate research objective of this paper is to develop the module of reactive power optimization for distribution network based on the Niche Adaptive Genetic Algorithm. Based on developed WebGIS system for distribution network and new topology analysis, the programs of power flow calculation and network loss calculation are developed. Selects the compensation method which combinating the compensation on 10kV pole and the compensation in 380V side of the transformer, the positions of compensation is calculated by means of sensitivity analysis. On the basis of the voltage quality is guaranteed, the mathematics model for reactive power optimization is founded on principle that the network loss and capacitor investment cost are least. Based on three different load operation conditions-light, normal and heavy, the program of reactive power optimization based on the Niche Adaptive Genetic Algorithm is developed. The program has been integrated into WebGIS as one of senior function modules. The results are fairly satisfactory.
