WMPLS as a QoS provisioning tool has emerged as an elegant solution to meet the bandwidth-management and service requirements for next generation IP based backbone networks.We think that multicast and WMPLS are two complementary technologies and multicasting over WMPLS networks can benefit from the multicast reduce of traffic on one hand, and WMPLS flexibility, speed and quality of service on the other hand.My thesis in this dissertation is that merging WMPLS into multicast routing protocol in mobile ad hoc network is not only a viable approach,but an elegant solution to enhance the network performance and an efficient solution for multicast scalability and control overhead problems.To support my thesis statement, in this dissertation I presented the design and evaluation of a new multicast protocol, WMAH protocol for multi-hop wireless ad hoc network, which was based on Wireless MPLS technology.Our study proves that using WMPLS with multicast in the mobile ad hoc network has many benefits not only for reducing multicast forwarding states but also for traffic engineering and QoS issues. Merging WMPLS into multicast routing protocol in mobile ad hoc network will give rise to more potential advantages else, such as saving more processing resources and energy of mobile host, timely adapting to the network conditions with protocol's behavior, and extending wired network services to wireless network more conveniently, etc.Firstly, in order to support wireless network, such as Ad Hoc, our work extended MPLS to WMPLS in NS2.Secondly, we modified CR-LDP singnal protocol of WMPLS to support multicast. Finally, WMAH multicast routing protocol was campared with MAODV protocol to analyse its performance.All these simulations show that applying WMPLS to ad hoc network not only is feasible but also can get some advantages.These advantages can be embodied that it can make mobile terminal save abundant communication resouce and also increase packet switching rate and the bandwidth using efficiency of wireless channel because WMPLS technology makes packet switching and routing control separating.
