Digital Image Processing has attracted much attention because of its extensive applications on radar monitoring, remote sensing, satellite exploration and missile guidance etc.. One of the most significant technologies in Digital Image Processing is transfer and storage of the image data with high speed and high capacity. However, many problems still remain unresolved due to the limited speed of the bus transfer and hard disk storage. In order to enhance the transfer and storage speed, we mainly investigated the technology of PCI Bus transfer and image data storage, on the basis of which, we designed a high-speed and high-capacity portable system of the image data transfer and storage. The framework of hardware design and the flow chart of software design are also given in the thesis.The first part of this thesis is the background, in which the technology related to the high-speed data transfer and high-capacity data storage is generally introduced. The PCI data reception adapter is expatiated in chapters listed as follows: Chapter Two, our design and hardware have achieved the high-speed data reception adapter based on PLX9056 bridge chip. 1). The framework and operation techniques on PCI Bus have been investigated and analyzed intensively; command, protocol and intermediation mechanism have been introduced in detail. 2). After detailed compare of various chips of bus interface, we have analyzed the structure as well as the function of PLX9056 bridge chip. 3). Based on PLX9056 chip, we have realized high-speed data reception adapter in design and hardware.Chapter Three, we have programmed the PCI device driver of data reception adapter which was designed by us. 1). The design principle of WDM driver and development tool of PCI driver have been studied carefully. 2). Software driver of data reception adapter applied on high-speed data transfer has been successfully developed by the tool of WinDrive.Chapter Four, by means of interruption and DMA program, the real-time storage of high-speed image data has been achieved. 1). The physical structure and work principle of harddisk have been investigated. 2). By the application of interruption, DMA technique and double-sheet buffer technique, real-time storage of the high-speed and high-capacity data has been successfully achieved. We have designed the application interface of data storage system, explained the function and operation method of each module. 3). The capacity and speed of system for the high-speed data reception and storage have been analyzed theoretically and tested experimentally.
