Pessimism On Technology In E-Media Times

As the inventions of telephone, film, radio and TV, the users of e-medium donot have the connections to given social identity and status, the real mass communication era began to popularize and develop, and let human culture come into the era of video, visual or optical communication. Under the promotion of technology, mass communication had already become a fact of one kind of live mode; it influenced all aspects of the development of society.Neil Postman, one of the most important culture researchers and critics, had profoundly animadverted on the far-forth influences of e-medium to society in post-modern industrial times. And these pessimistic animadvert engendered the unique views and theories of Neil research on e-medium—Technology Pessimism. Neil Postman gave us new way to understand the medium technology in our times; it has very important significance for us to survey the relationship between human and the medium technologies.In this paper, I pondered and analyzed the main ideas of Neil Postman theory in for aspects: media ecology, the media is metaphor, the media is epistemology, the media and the variance of "children". And I also tried to review the background of Neil's media theory in grand scope, containing social and theoretic context; then give a whole judge to Neil's theories.
