The Doppler weather radar is the advanced radar system up to now in the world, it not only extract the reflectivity factor in the radar echo which is done by the traditional weather radar, but also extract the radial velocity and relevant spectral width of the precipitation particle, which great improved the capability of weather monitoring and forecast. But because the digitalization research of the radar images is still not very mature in our country, these valuable radar image data can't be used in the weather forecast quantificationally now.At first, this paper simply introduced some foundational knowledge of the Doppler weather radar, especially the definition of the precipitation echo and the relationship of the radar echo and the precipitation intensity. And then discussed the color space and the technology of color image segmentation synthetically, which is very imported in the color image segmentation.Next, this paper aimed at the color Doppler weather radar images, carried out the preprocessing of the radar images. And then on the ground of the traditional region growing segmentation and the interactive image segmentation, presented a new image segment method which based on the region growing and the interactive segmentation. At last, experimental verified that this method can be used in the segmentation of the precipitation echo effectively.At present, because of the digitalization research of the radar images is still very few, this paper is only done some foundational work in the color radar image segmentation, but this provide good foundation for the further research of the digitalization system about the Doppler weather radar images.
