With unifying of embedded system and Internet, more and more embeddedsystems have network function. It can adopt the way using gateway connecting toInternet for multitudinous embedded systems based on 8/16 bit MCU which consistin many domains such as industry, observation, control and family network This waynot only solves the problem that low capability embedded system can not providehigh resource for running TCP/IP protocol, but also reduces cost and achieves the aimin economy and availability. So there is a biggish realism meaning and economyworthniness in studying gateway.At present, the research of embedded gateway mainly focuse on studying how toconnect the embedded devices or some special networks to the Internet by usinggateway. The gateway designed to realize these goals often lacks versatility, dependson some kinds of embedded network, moreover the interconnection between thediffirenent embedded special networks basically had not be considered. There is nomutually operation and information sharing mechanism in the gateway.Considering that, this paper fastens on two aspects: realizing embedded systemconnecting to Internet and the interconnection of several embedded heterogeneousnetworks. In this paper, the elementary theory of embedded Internet is studied as afoundation. Based on embedded operation systemμCLinux, the gateway is designedto interconnect the embedded heterogeneous networks. Taking the RS485 busnetwork and the CAN bus network as an example, communication protocols,hardware frame and the software system of this gateway are discussed in detail. Thisgateway uses the modular design way, integrates many kind of embeddedheterogeneous networks. Through this gateway, not only the low performanceembedded equipment can be linked to Internet, but also a software frame which is suitreducing and expanding and easy to transplant is given to interconnecte severalisolated embedded heterogeneous networks. In addition, as each kind ofcommunication network has different real time request, a communication responsemechanism is constructed in the gateway based on the priority, thus the real-time performance of embedded gateway is improved. Finally, the gateway which designedby this article is carried on the simulation test. The test result indicates that thisgateway has allowed to achieve the anticipated goals.
