As a hot wireless networking technology in the next generation network technologys, the broadband wireless acess (BWA) system has even drawn wide attention. The IEEE802.16 standards define the physical layer and MAC layer of air interface standards in wireless MAN.In 802.16 standards, 802.16-2004 and 802.16-2005 are the standards which are of much commercial prospects. So there are a lot of changes in the security mechanism in the 802.16-2005 standards, which is expected to meet the commercial requirement in security mechanism.This paper researches the implemention of security mechanism in 802.16-2005. At the same time, this paper gives an implemention method fit for the wireless MAN based on the reliability and real-time requirement. In this method, the security sublayer is devided into 2 modules, authentication and authorization module and encryption and decryption module. And the Function of the authentication and authorization module includes EAP authentication, TEK exchangement and management, SA TEK 3 hand-shaking management, SA management, KEY and MAC management, and etc. The function of the encryption and decryption module includes support to the algorithms in data encryption and decryption, key generation, key encryption and decryption and so on. IEEE802.16 MAC security sublayer based on the PicoChip embedded development platform is implemented according to the above design.
