With the fast development of Internet, Java technology has been used more and more broad. Whether we use J2SE,J2EE or J2ME, GUI is a matter which is inevitably. Current applications have higher requirements to software, which include friendly user interface, powerful functions and simple usage. As we all known, it is more complex and troubled to design GUI in Java than use its technology of cross-platformand multi-thread, which is mostly complained by many java programmers. Since GUI has become the trend of program development, we have to know the design method and characteristic of Java GUI to make GUI well served for application software. The GUI mentioned in this thesis not only includes graphic show function but also the operation maintenance function, for example: report management,privilage management,log management and so on.In chapter one of this thesis, mobile intelligent network management system is firstly introduced, including its system structure and function; after that, Java Swing, the key technology in GUI development is described and also the traditional technology: AWT before Swing, pointing its advantages and disadvantages. In the end of this chapter, some problems in the old GUI system are presented based on the status of current network management system and its GUI.From the second chapter to the fifth chapter which is the main body of this thesis, we analyze some representative problems in old GUI system. It mostly includes three function improvement points: GUI layout,user/privilege management,log management; three performance optimization points: three memory leak,SQL,code coupling;,three new functions' design and development: topo map,alarm inform,NMS report. The specific solution details and implementation strategies are described in this part of this thesis, including some comparations between old system and new system after each optimization or improvement point.In the last chapter of this thesis, the current status and the trend of the development of network management system and GUI are discussed, also the forecasts of network management and GUI.
