With the rapid development of Computer Graphics technology, virtual plant becomes an important research direction. The virtual plant growth research and forestry research is pragmatic. It not only serves design of scene virescence and an important role in agriculture but also has wide application in many areas, education, entertainment, business etc.There are two research directions in virtual plants: one is to simulate the appearance of the plants only, which just pay attention to the third dimension of vision; the other is to simulate real process of growth of the plant, which pay attention to real reflection of botany theory. At present, the two directions have both achieved a certain degree of success. But the process of growth of the plant is the results of the interaction of its physiological-ecological, formal-structure and environment. So how to combine the physiological-ecological model with formal-structural model, in order to reappear the real process of growth of plant, becomes one of the important research direction of virtual plants.This dissertation Based on the theory of L-system, we develop a computer program to realize the Visual Plant System in VC++6.0, which uses the stand graphic programming interface of OpenGL .First I counter the nature real soybean's unique feature as well as the structure data, have carried on the entity modeling to the surface soybean. At the same time, in order to cause the production the soybean to look like vividly direct-viewing, used one kind to soybean's organ to construct the process based on the artificial life restraint method, including (light factor, temperature factor, water factor) affected together, realizes the soybean growth process computer simulation, the production hypothesized soybean had the three dimensional three-dimensional effect, the shape is lifelike, conforms to the nature growth rule.First the dissertation introduces the research status of virtual plant growth, and illustrates the significance of the task. Second it studies the theories of L-system and simply introduces OpenGL and model method based on images of organs. As well as has carried on the introduction based on the artificial life restraint method. Third it emphasizes on the function modules of virtual plant system. Last the dissertation gives examples using virtual plant system.At the same time the research of this dissertation helps to discover a natural principle: a seemingly complicated natural phenomenon contains simple rules.
