Virtual machine technology first reached prominence in the early 1960s and achieved commercial success with the IBM 370 mainframe series. This technology allowed mainframes to run multiple operating systems simultaneously. But with the advent of low-cost minicomputers and personal computers, the need for virtualization declined during the 1980s and early 1990s. Recently, Virtualization has experienced a rebirth of popularity. More and More research groups and corporations are exploring innovative ways to apply virtual machine technology. The paper introduced the researches and applications of virtual machine technology and described a virtual machine environment based on Xen. This paper presented a different office application model--"Application Distribution", and this model has already implemented in the virtual environment.By the way, in the part of testing and data analysis, this paper developed a new kind of specific way to collect and parse data of virtual machine environment with different office application workloads.
