Resources monitoring is an important part of Intranet management. Large scale of resources such as non-standard equipments, network equipments, personal computers, software systems always need to be monitored under Intranet application system. To effectively monitor these resources is one of the most active research areas of Intranet management today. The paper analyzed resources monitoring under Intranet environment, and throughly detailed the principle, architecture, application mode of WMI. According to that obtaining information from PC based on WMI effectively and conveniently, a active mode and a client/server mode resources monitoring architectures are both designed, which can availably monitor resources under Intranet environment. Also, a method to monitor PC resources using WMI is designed. And based on the above achievements, a Intranet application system of resources monitoring is implemented. To solve the massive overhead caused by WMI when the initial connecting fails, a host detection optimal method which used Winsocket API and based on ICMP protocol is introduced. To solve the thread deadlock problem when some block functions are called by WMI at run-time, a detection method based on "heartbeat" is designed. Practical results shows that the method can effectively solve the thread deadlock problem in WMI application. A uniform resources description model based on XML is presented, which can monitor various non-standard resources in effect. To monitor the software system resources, especially the database running status, a database status periodically detecting method is designed, which can simultaneously monitor the dynamic database running status.
