On the basic of summaring of the research of Automatic Fingerprint Identification System, effective methods of image enhancement and thinning are discussed.Firstly, a survey on the current research of Automatic Fingerprint is introduced,which emphasizes on describing the method how the Identification System are realized. The algorithm is consist of normalize,computing orientation map,image enhancement, thinning, extracting minutiae and minutiae matching.Next, based on the study of many fingerprint enhancement technology on computer,a low quality fingerprint enhanced algorithm was designed in wavelet domain.The algorithm uses low-frequency coefficients estimated the direction of the ridge, so the high-frequency noise impact was reduced. each direction coefficient images were enhanced based on direction-map and further reconstruction.The simulation results on some typical images show that our proposed algorithm has better enhanced performance and lower computation burden .Moreover,in order to resolve the difficulty of thinning of image,this paper presents an effective resolvent and it will improve the thinned images effectively.The test images prove the validity of the methods.
